USA draws Japan, Russia and Sweden in its pool for Women’s World Cup in Russia, Dec. 1-2

The United States has drawn into Group A at the 2017 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Cheboksary, Russia, Dec. 1-2.


It will be a very difficult pool, as the USA will battle World champion Japan, host Russia plus Sweden in their Pool A dual meets.


At the 2017 World Championships, Japan placed first, the United States finished second, Sweden finished ninth and Russia placed 11th.


Group B will feature China, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Mongolia. At the 2017 World Championships, Mongolia was fourth, China placed seventh and Ukraine was 14th.


The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships, with eight top nations competing. Teams will compete in dual meets against all of the nations in their pool, followed by placement matches against a team from the other pool.


The United States is seeking its first Women’s World Cup victory since 2003, when the United States defeated Japan in the championship finals dual meet, 14-13.


U.S. fans can watch the Women’s World Cup live on Trackwrestling. Cheboksary is eight hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time.
