Wrestling Canada Lutte Board Approves Relocation of National Office to RA House of Sport

The RA House of Sport is an innovative and collaborative concept, connecting the sport community by housing NSOs and MSOs under one roof. This co-location will result in economies of scale and efficiencies by sharing common elements such as meeting rooms, reception, conference halls, a coffee bar, washrooms, technologies and many other resources.

WCL's Board of Directors unanimously approved the relocation, which is tentatively scheduled for November 1st, 2017.

The RA Centre in Ottawa is the ideal location for this one of a kind, first in Canada, innovative idea. The RA’s main campus on Riverside Drive provides an intriguing set of opportunities including access to transit; the airport and train station, active transportation options; bike paths and riverfront pathways, parking, nearby shopping, on-site restaurant, banquet and conference services, fitness centre and activity areas, existing space, infrastructure and room to grow.

Efforts Continue on Board Support & Development and Committee Structure

WCL’s Board of Directors committed to a Board Development Program in 2017 following a Human Resources review that was conducted in 2016 by the Sport Law & Strategy Group (SLSG). One of the recommendations was for WCL to provide assistance in the area of Board development to help ensure the Board was continuing to transition into a more policy focused one.

The Board is currently reviewing and revising a document titled “Good Governance Principles for WCL” which was created to enhance clarity of roles and responsibilities, ensure effective communications with stakeholders while ensuring proper oversight is achieved.

Another recommendation of the SLSG review was to revise WCL's committee structure for increased alignment between Board and staff operations. The committee structure is an integral part of the revised governance structure, especially as it relates to clarity of roles and responsibilities and ensuring that our constituents have an appropriate avenue for input.

Olympic Champion Carol Huynh Named to the Class of 2017 in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame revealed the six Athletes, one Team, and two sport “Builders” who will make up the Class of 2017. Included in the Class of 2017 is Olympic champion and two-time Olympic medalist Carol Huynh, who won a gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics

Induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is considered the country’s highest sporting honour and reinforces the incredibly successful athletic careers of the nominees. This year’s Class has broken down barriers, blazed new trails, and served as proud international ambassadors for Canadian values. Each of the inductees selected to join the Class of 2017 have fostered inspiration both on and off the field of play, using sport as a platform to build a better country for their fellow athletes and all Canadians.
