This is #WrestlingWeek Across America. On Wednesday, which was ‘Hero Day’ during the weeklong celebration, Kyle Snyder, one of wrestling’s greatest current heroes, was named as a finalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award.
Winning this award is a huge honor, as it goes to the nation’s top amateur athlete and has been awarded since 1930. Fans can help in the voting for the Sullivan Award online. You are allowed to vote once every 24 hours through next Wednesday.
VOTE FOR KYLE SNYDER FOR AAU SULLIVAN AWARD
Only three wrestlers have won this award, fellow Olympic champions John Smith, Bruce Baumgartner and Rulon Gardner. It has been 16 years, back to 2000, since a wrestler has won. NOW IS THE TIME FOR A WRESTLER TO WIN AGAIN.
There is a way you can increase Kyle’s vote total through social media. The AAU be adding votes from anyone using #Snyder4Sullivan and #AAUSullivanAward to the overall public vote. Retweets will count toward the total and the users must use both hashtags in order for their vote to be counted.
There is no doubt that Snyder is deserving based upon his amazing 2016 season. Do you remember his amazing win over Nick Gwiazdowski of NC State at the 2016 NCAAs in Madison Square Garden, arguably the best heavyweight final of all time? How about his amazing run at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where he powered through the field and became the youngest U.S. wrestler to win an Olympic title at age 20? His record stands for itself.
Snyder is on the mat this week, representing Ohio State as a junior, with a No. 1 seed at heavyweight, an undefeated record and a chance to win another NCAA crown.
There are many thousands of wrestling fans in St. Louis this week at the NCAA Div. I Championships, watching Snyder attempt to defend his NCAA heavyweight title. What if every fan who attended the NCAAs got on their cellphones, Ipads and laptops and voted for Kyle every day this week?
How about the millions of wrestlers and wrestling fans who are not in St. Louis, many who are enjoying the competition every day on ESPN and its family of broadcast platforms? If we could get even a fraction of the American Wrestling Nation to get online to vote for Kyle, his nomination would be able to succeed.
We all know that wrestling people are competitive. We love a challenge, and we love to win. Spend a few moments and help the sport of wrestling win, and our 2016 Olympic champion hero Kyle Snyder win the Sullivan Award. Let’s get it done. Please vote right now and all week long, and encourage your family, friends and wrestling colleagues to do the same.
This is a great way to truly celebrate #WrestlingWeek In America.
