USA Wrestling is reaching out to Senior-level wrestlers who would like to compete in the 2017 Senior Pan American Beach Wrestling Championships, which will be held in Sao Jose, Brazil on Monday, May 8.
This continental Beach Wrestling event is being held immediately following the Senior Pan American Championships in the Olympic styles, which are also in Sao Jose, May 5-7.
This would be a self-funded tour. Men and Women Senior athletes who wish to compete would be responsible for covering the costs of their airfare, plus room and board costs of the tour.
Those with past Beach Wrestling experience are preferred, but Senior-level athletes who are active in USA Wrestling programs would also be considered.
USA Wrestling must turn in its team roster for the Pan American Championships next week, so those who would like to compete at the Pan American Beach Championships should immediately contact Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling at gabbott@usawrestling.org
Additional details will be provided to any interested athlete once they email Gary Abbott
A few things to know:
• Athletes should fly into the Hercilio Luz International Airport in Florianopolis, Brazil
• It can take anywhere between two weeks and five weeks to receive a visa for Brazil. (This varies based upon where in the USA you are applying). Those who want to compete at the Beach Pan Ams should quickly begin their visa process.
• Those who have already received a 10-year, multi-entry Brazilian visa which has not expired, even if it’s in an expired passport, can use that visa to travel to Brazil.
• Those who will compete will need a current UWW license. The cost is $110 and payment is due at the event. They need to have a copy of their passport, a photo & a medical letter. Below is a link to a medical letter that they can use
