U.S. women receive draws for Junior Pan American Championships in Peru

LIMA, Peru – Eight American women have weighed in and received their draws for the women’s freestyle competition at the Junior Pan American Championships being held at the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna in Lima, Peru on Saturday.
All eight U.S. athletes placed in the top four of the UWW Junior Women’s Nationals held in Irving, Texas, last month.
Two-time Cadet World Team member Vayle-Rae Baker (Benton, Pa.) begins her conquest against defending Junior Pan American champion Adrianny Castillo of Venezuela at 51 kg/112 lbs. Castillo was also a two-time Cadet Pan American champion.
The two lightest Americans will see tough competition in the early stage of wrestling tomorrow. 48 kg/105 lbs. representative Kateri Rowell (Aberdeen, Wash.) will open against last year’s Junior Pan American silver medalist Lady Moran Valenzuela of Ecuador. Similarly, Charlie Hamer (The Colony, Texas) begins her day against 2014 Cadet Pan American silver medalist Diane Martins Farias of Brazil.
Emma Bruntil (Acme, Wash.), Jayden Laurent (Denmark, Wis.) and Andrea Sennett (Wheeling, Ill.) are all entered in round-robin brackets and are guaranteed multiple matches tomorrow. Bruntil and Laurent are part of five-athlete round robins at 59 kg/130 lbs. and 67 kg/147 lbs., respectively. Sennett will compete in a talented four-athlete round robin at 72 kg/158 lbs.
Also taking the mat tomorrow for the U.S. are Jathiya Isaac (Plainview, Texas) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Gladdys Palma (Ashland, Ore) at 63 kg/138 lbs. Isaac will battle Panama’s Cindy Poveda Pinzon, while Palma has drawn Colombia’s Aura Andrades Gomez.
The women’s freestyle tournament at the Junior Pan American Championships will begin at 11 a.m. (ET) on Saturday with the qualification rounds and repechage bouts. Medal matches will follow at 6 p.m. (ET).
