AKRON, Ohio – The best-of-three championship finals for the UWW Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals have been determined after an exciting morning of wrestling at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House on the campus of the University of Akron.

The matchup headlining this afternoon’s finals series comes at 100 kg/220 lbs. with Cadet Nationals champions Tyler Curd and Cohlton Schultz renewing their rivalry. The two split bouts in Fargo, N.D. last summer, Curd taking the Greco-Roman title and Schultz the freestyle crown.

The two big men combined to win five matches, two by fall and three by technical fall, en route to the championship series. Curd pinned Jace Punke in less than a minute in his semifinal bout, while Schultz picked up a 39-second technical fall over Luke Luffman in the opposite semifinal.

2016 Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals champion Will Lewan found a spot in the 69 kg/152 lbs. finals after going big on past Cadet Nationals finalist Peyton Robb in the final 20 seconds. Trailing 4-2 late, Lewan converted a four-point lateral drop to secure the victory, 6-4. He will take on two-time Cadet Nationals All-American Mason Reiniche in the finals.

Lewan’s Izzy Style teammate, Dylan Ragusin, escaped Brenden Chaowanapibool 9-8 in the 46 kg/101 lbs. semifinals, in what was a rematch of last year’s Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals finals. Ragusin will meet Parker Decker for a berth on the U.S. Cadet World Team.

Defending UWW Cadet Nationals champion Malik Johnson pushed through to the 58 kg/127 lbs. finals with a 7-2 win over Breaden Dickinson in the semifinals. Johnson, also a Cadet Nationals champion, will defend his title against Jevon Parrish.

2016 Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals champions Ridge Lovett and Mason Phillips cruised to today’s championship finals. Lovett, a four-time Fargo All-American, will battle fellow Cadet Nationals All-American King Sandoval for the 54 kg/119 lbs. title. Phillips will do the same against Cadet Nationals All-American Trevor Mansfield.

Three-time Cadet Nationals All-American Lucas Byrd qualified for the 50 kg/110 lbs. championship series against Anthony Molton who also boasts Cadet Nationals All-America status.

Cadet Nationals runner-up Jake Hendricks is set to face Cadet Nationals All-American Christopher Foca in the 76 kg/167 lbs. finals.

USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals champion Ashton Sharp and USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals champion Peter Christensen navigated to the 85 kg/187 lbs. championship series with clutch performances.

The last championship series paring comes at 42 kg/92 lbs. with Cadet Nationals All-American Kase Mauger squaring off against Joseph Manno.

The 125 kg/275 lbs. bracket was wrestled to completion on Friday morning with Jake DelGarbino emerging as the winner of a four-man round-robin. DelGarbino won two bouts by technical fall and one by pin to claim the title. Since 125 kg is not a UWW sanctioned world weight class, DelGarbino is not eligible to compete at the Cadet World Championships.

The UWW Cadet Nationals best-of-three finals for the Greco-Roman division will begin at 3 p.m. (ET). A live stream of the event, as well as complete brackets, can be found on Flowrestling.com.
