FARGO, N.D. – Another round down at the U.S. Marines Corps Junior Nationals and the women’s freestyle field has held strong with several highly-anticipated bouts looming.

The round of 16 was wrestled on Thursday morning inside the famed Fargodome, with all the top contenders advancing.

The six athletes who possess a Cadet World medal, Gracie Figueroa of California, Ronna Heaton of South Dakota, Macey Kilty of Wisconsin, Alleida Martinez of California, Alara Boyd of Indiana and Kayla Marano of Oklahoma, all cruised through today’s morning session.

Junior World Team members joining Figueroa and Heaton in the quarterfinals are McKayla Campbell of Ohio and Cameron Guerin of Washington.

Figueroa is also a member of the Cadet World Team. She and fellow Cadet World Teamers Boyd, Vayle Baker of Pennsylvania, Emily Shilson of Minnesota, Alexandria Liles of Texas, Caitlyn Walker of Pennsylvania, Alisha Howk of Wisconsin and Kelani Corbett of Hawaii have all qualified for tonight’s quarterfinals.

Champions from last year still in the running for another Junior Nationals crown are Figueroa, Martinez, Marano, Shilson, Liles, Guerin and Brenda Reyna of Washington. Heaton and Campbell are also past winner of this event.

Seven of this year’s Cadet Nationals champions moved on to the quarterfinals: Shilson, Kilty, Corbett, Brelane Huber of Idaho, Stefana Jelacic of Arizona, Natalie Kemp of Wisconsin and Jasmin Clarke of California.

California leads all states with 22 wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinal round. Sitting with the second largest number of quarterfinalists is Washington at 11.

The women’s freestyle U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals will resume at 3 p.m. (CT) on Thursday with the quarterfinals. All the action can be viewed live on Flowrestling.com. Complete brackets can be found on Flowrestling’s FloArena platform.
