The Cadet Nationals for women’s freestyle is only in its seventh year, and continues to grow. It added another 50 athletes this year, as more states are entering and larger Cadet delegations are finding their way to Fargo. Although it is a bigger event this year, a ton of talented wrestlers “graduated” out of the Cadet age last year into Junior-only competition. There will be many opportunities for new young stars to be developed this year.
94 – This weight class includes a pair of 2016 Cadet National champions Caitlyn Walker of Pennsylvania, who won at 88 pounds, and Emily Shilson of Minnesota, the 95 pound champion. Shilson was also the Junior Nationals champion last year at 97 pounds, and is back to seek both titles again this year. Walker won the UWW Cadet Nationals this year, as did Shilson, again at different weight classes. Shilson was also Folkstyle Nationals champion as a Junior. Samara Sanchez of Texas was second at the UWW Cadet Nationals this year for a high tier ranking.

100 – Ohio’s Olivia Shore is the top wrestler in this weight, based upon her UWW Cadet Nationals title this year in Irving, Texas. She was also third at the Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals. Shore could be pushed Autumn Hohn of Wisconsin, who was second at last year’s Cadet Nationals at 95 pounds, while Kayla Kehr of Pennsylvania was third at 95. Nicole Moore of Kansas was second at the Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals in Texas this spring.
Others separated – Sofia Martinez (CA), Alyssa Sequiera (CA), Hailey Ward (CA), Anayko Besco (KS), Mateah Roehl (WI)
106 – Tilynne Vasquez of Montana was second at the UWW Cadet Nationals this year, and was third at the Cadet Nationals in Fargo last summer. 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet champion Jaslyn Gallegos of Colorado, also sixth at the UWW Cadet Nationals, is expected to challenge. Jaine Stephens of Kentucky was fifth at Cadet Nationals last year at 95 pounds, when she competed for Georgia. Josie Bartishofski of Wisconsin was eighth at the Cadet Nationals a year ago at 101, and third at the Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals this spring.

112 – Stephana Jelacic of Arizona, third at last year’s Cadet Nationals at 108 pounds, is among the top athletes at this weight. She also placed second at the 2017 UWW Cadet Nationals this year and second at the Girls Cadet Folkstyle Nationals. Viktorya Torres of Washington placed third at the 2016 Cadet Nationals at 115 pounds, and also won the 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals. Maya Kretzer of Kansas was seventh at the 2016 Cadet Nationals and eighth at the Junior Nationals.

117 – This is a wide open weight class. 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet champion Leilah Castro of Ohio holds the highest separation tier at No. 6. Castro also was fourth at the UWW Cadet Nationals this spring. No other athlete in the field has a tier level higher than No. 11. We will see some new All-Americans this year for sure.

122 – Kaylee Moore of Washington was a double All-American in Fargo last summer, placing fifth at the Cadet Nationals at 124 pounds and fourth at Junior Nationals at 121 pounds. She was also third at the Girls Cadet Folkstyle Nationals. Randi Robison of Illinois, sixth at the 2016 Cadet Nationals, was also a runner-up at the 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals this year. Louisa Schwab of Illinois was fifth at the UWW Cadet Nationals.

127 – Macey Kilty of Wisconsin, one of the nation’s top stars, returns to repeat at the Cadet Nationals, where she won a gold at 108 pounds last year. Kilty was also third at the 2016 Junior Nationals. She went on to win a UWW Cadet World bronze medal last summer. Kilty has grown considerably, and was second at the UWW Cadet Nationals this spring. Jessica Sanchez of California was a double All-American last summer also, placing fourth at the Cadet Nationals and seventh at the Junior Nationals. Sanchez added a Folkstyle Cadet Nationals title this year. Destiny Bailey of New Mexico was eighth at the Cadet Nationals last summer.
Others separated – Hope Miracle (KY), Courtney Pittman (KY), Ngao Shoua Whitethorn (MN), Avia Bibeau (PA), Ashton Cadman (WI)
132 – Mattison Parker of Texas, a 2017 Girls Cadet Folkstyle national champion is among the top contenders. Dalia Garabay of California, eighth at Cadet Nationals, is also expected to battle for a spot in the finals.
Others separated – Bayleigh Heiman (AK), Jacqueline Ghent (TX), Charmayne Delong (WY)
138 – There are no returning Cadet Nationals All-Americans in the field here. Hunter Robinson of Texas placed fourth at the UWW Cadet Nationals in Texas this spring. Emily Se of California, third at the 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals, is another challenger.
Others separated – Morgan Mayginnes (KS), Jazzmine Seely (MO), Avery Guerra (TX)
144 – Alara Boyd of Indiana, a UWW Cadet World bronze medalist last summer, is the star at this weight class. Boyd was a double All-American last summer, placing second at the Cadet Nationals and fourth at the Junior Nationals. She added a Girls Folkstyle Nationals title this spring. McKenzie Cook of Alaska was fourth at the Cadet Nationals last year at 143, while Jillian Bruno of Pennsylvania was sixth at the same weight class. These three women are the only separated wrestlers in the weight class.
152 – Kelani Corbett of Hawaii, fifth at last year’s Cadet Nationals, has had a great spring, winning the title at the UWW Cadet Nationals in Texas. Kiana Pugh of Wisconsin, fifth at the 2016 Cadet Nationals, added a Girls Folkstyle Nationals Cadet title this year. Tiyahna Askew of Georgia, second at the UWW Cadet Nationals this spring, is another top talent in the draw. Destiny King of Wisconsin was second at was second at the Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals this year.

164 – Elisa Robinson of Kansas, who was fourth at the 2016 Cadet Nationals, added a silver medal at the UWW Cadet Nationals this spring in Texas.

180 – Natalie Kemp of Wisconsin, who was third at the Cadet Nationals in Fargo a year ago, is the most experienced of this group. She also added a Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals title this year. A runner-up at the 2017 UWW Cadet Nationals, Alyssa Marinaccio of Maryland, is also highly regarded.

200 – Taja Showers of Virginia, the 2017 Girls Folkstyle Cadet Nationals champion, is a top competitor here. She will be pushed by Sydney Fenus of Texas, who was fourth at the UWW Cadet Nationals this spring. There are no other entries who earned a separation tier.
