Three U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers found a spot in the United World Wrestling year-end World rankings released on Friday.
Two of America’s four Greco-Roman Olympians in 2016 come in at No. 16 in the UWW World rankings.
Two-time World bronze medalist Andy Bisek (Marquette, Mich./Minnesota Storm) comes in at No. 16 at 75 kg/165 lbs. Bisek has not competed since the Olympic Games where he finished in 12th place and is down three spots from No. 13 in the previous World rankings.
Jesse Thielke (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) finished in ninth place at the Olympic Games and starts 2017 ranked No. 16 at 59 kg/130 lbs. Similar to Bisek, Thielke hasn’t competed since taking part in the Olympics and is down one position from the previous World rankings.
The third and final U.S. Greco-Roman wrestler making it into the UWW World rankings is two-time U.S. World Team member Patrick Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) who comes in at No. 20 at 80 kg/176 lbs. Martinez, who dropped three spots in the World rankings, last competed at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he went 0-1.
2016 Olympians Ben Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) and Robby Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) both finished in 12th place at the Olympic Games, but did not make the cut for the World rankings. Provisor recently finished in third place at the U.S. Senior Nationals and Smith has not competed since Rio.
