KLIPPAN, Sweden – A talented team with numerous young stars from the United States have weighed in and received their draws for the first day of the Klippan Lady Open, which begins on Saturday.

The top star on the U.S. team is three-time World Team member and 2015 Pan American Games champion Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP), who opens at 53 kg/116.5 lbs. against 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist Nazira Marsbek Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan. Conder was a Junior World champion in 2007.

The U.S. team features five other past Junior World medalists, as well as a past Cadet World champion.

Three-time Junior World medalist Erin Golston (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/OTC) will battle at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., opening against Karalina Tjapko of Latvia, who was fifth in the 2011 European Championships. Golston won a silver and two bronzes at the Junior Worlds.

2015 Junior World bronze medalist Becka Leathers (Choctaw, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) opens her competition at 55 kg/121 lbs. against Alexandra Andreeva of Russia, who was third in the 2017 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Russia.

A pair of 2016 Junior World bronze medalists will be competing for Team USA at 63 kg/138.75 lbs., Maya Nelson (Denver, Colo./Sunkist Kids) and Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y./NYAC/Bearcat WC). Nelson opens with 2005 World University silver medalist Breanne Graham of Canada, while Porter drew 2014 World bronze medalist Valeriia Lazinskaia of Russia.

2014 Junior World bronze medalist Victoria Francis (Litchfield, Ill./Titan Mercury WC) has a challenging first-round draw against 2015 World bronze medalist Epp Mae of Estonia. Francis was second in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

2015 Cadet World champion and 2016 Cadet World silver medalist Ronna Heaton, Brookings, S.D. (Sunkist Kids) will test herself against the Senior competition at 55 kg/121 lbs. in Sweden. Her first round opponent is Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus, a 2016 European silver medalist.

This year, there are 11 U.S. women competing in the Senior division at the Klippan Lady Open, one of the most highly respected women’s Open tournaments in the world each year.

The Klippan Lady Open is wrestled over two days, which differs from most international tournaments which contest each weight class on one day. The medal rounds for the Senior women will be on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Cadet division of the Klippan Lady Open will conclude, with eight U.S. Cadet women still in the draw. The Cadet tournament began on Friday.
