CHEBOKSARY, Russia – Eight U.S. women wrestling stars have qualified for the medal round, including four going for the gold, at the Russia Cup on Monday.

The tournament features many of the athletes who competed in the Women’s World Cup on Friday and Saturday, as well as some other athletes who were not in the World Cup event.

Earning spots in the finals are three-time World champion and five-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Kingston, Pa./New York AC) at 75 kg/165 lbs., two-time World Team member Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., plus two other 2017 World Team members, Mallory Velte (Sacramento, Calif./Titan Mercury WC/Burnaby Mountain WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Tamyra Mensah-Stock (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/OTC) at 69 kg/152 lbs.

Velte had a strong run to reach the finals, where she faces Mongolia’s Borlortuya Khurelkhuu for the title. Velte had three wins on Monday, including beating U.S. teammate Forrest Molinari, as well as Inna Trazhukova of Russia, who was fifth in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Mensah-Stock has drawn three-time World bronze medalist Nasanburmaa Ochirbat of Mongolia in the finals. Among those she beat was 2017 European champion Anastasia Bratchikova of Russia.
