Two Cyclone wrestling legends were inducted into Iowa State’s Athletics Hall of Fame during ceremonies this weekend in Ames, Iowa, 1928 NCAA champion Arthur Holding and 1968 NCAA champion Reg Wicks.

Since the creation of the Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997, a wrestler has been inducted every year, for an amazing 20 straight years. There are now 33 Hall of Fame members at Iowa State from its wrestling team.

Holding was the first NCAA champion for Iowa State in wrestling, when he won the 1928 NCAA title at 135 pounds. He was also the first three-time conference champion in the Cyclone program.

Wicks won the 160-pound NCAA title in 1968 and won the Midlands title in 1967. He coached at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1988-2000.

Also inducted alongside Holding and Wicks were Mark Diab (men’s gymnastics), Dan McCarney (football), Jamaal Tinsley (men’s basketball), Erin Woods (softball), Megan Taylor (women’s basketball) and Raf Wyns (track and field/cross country).
