TheMat.com has done an extensive review of the results of the wrestling competition at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Macon, France.
Included in the review are the medal count standings and the official team standings. It includes a review of the overall standings for all three wrestling disciplines, as well as each of the disciplines separately.
Overall the United States finished third in both the medal count and official combined standings with eight medals (two gold and six bronze) and 92 points. Included was Spencer Lee (50 kg FS), who won his second-straight Junior World title and his third-consecutive age-group World title. The other USA champion was Mark Hall (74 kg FS), who was a 2014 Cadet World champion.
In men’s freestyle, the USA was fifth in the team standings with 36 points and fifth in the medal count with three medals (two gold and one bronze).
In women’s freestyle, the USA was sixth in the team standings with 32 points, and was fifth in the medal count with three medals, all bronze.
In Greco-Roman, Team USA was eighth in the team standings with 24 points and tied for seventh in medals with two bronze.
The 2016 Junior Worlds was an improvement for Team USA with eight medals. In 2015, the USA earned five medals with just one champion (Lee).
