Four athletes qualify for U.S. Olympic Team Trials field in Iowa City at Women’s University Nationals

There were four athletes added this past weekend for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling, which will be held at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa, April 9-10.
The Women’s University Nationals were held at Freede Center on the Oklahoma City University campus in Oklahoma City, Okla., March 26. This was an Olympic Trials qualifier in women’s freestyle only.
The champion and runner-up in each of the eight weight classes qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. If the athlete had already qualified for the Olympic Trials, that spot would go unfilled. There were four athletes who made the finals who had not already qualified.
The athletes added to the Olympic Trials field were
Women’s Freestyle 53 kg/116.5 lbs. - Amy Fearnside (Jamestown, N.D./Titan Mercury WC)
Women’s Freestyle 53 kg/116.5 lbs. – Rachel Archer (Winlock, Wash./Oklahoma City Univ.)
Women’s Freestyle 58 kg/128 lbs. - Tarkiya Mensah (Katy, Texas/Wayland Baptist)
Women’s Freestyle 63 kg/138.75 lbs. - Shai Mason (Jamestown, N.D./Titan Mercury WC)
At this time, the total number of qualifiers through the #Road2IowaCity qualifying process is 214 wrestlers. This includes 72 men’s freestyle wrestlers, 65 Greco-Roman wrestlers and 81 women’s freestyle wrestlers.

There is only one #Road2IowaCity Trials Qualifier left on the schedule. The Last Chance Trials Qualifier will be held in Cedar Falls, Iowa on April 1-3. This is an Olympic Trials qualifier in all three styles, with the champions in each of the Olympic weight classes earning a spot in the field in Iowa City. There are as many as 18 qualification spots in the Olympic Trials available in Cedar Falls.
All-session tickets to the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials are available for purchase. All-session options include adult ($75), and youth (18 and younger, $50). VIP tickets are sold out. Fans can purchase tickets at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, over the phone at 1-800-IA-HAWKS, or online at iowacitytorio.com.
