Mike Novogratz, Chairman of Beat the Streets NY, is pleased to announce that Brendan Buckley will assume the position of Executive Director as of April 18th 2016. Buckley comes to BTSNY following positions as a Division I head wrestling coach, most recently at Cal Poly and before that at Columbia University in New York City. His leadership has elevated programs and brought greater financial stability. He brings to BTS a wealth of experience in developing programmatic vision, sharing it with stakeholders and raising the funds to execute it.

Under Brendan's five year guidance at Cal Poly, eight wrestlers made the NCAA Division 1 National Championships, and two were Pac-12 champions, with four runners-up. Cal Poly director of athletics Don Oberhelman said, “During his five years at Cal Poly, he has changed the culture of the program for the better and the academic side of the program is as good as anyone else's in the country.”

Included among many achievements as Columbia University's head coach for 11 seasons were five years of nationally ranked recruiting classes, 20 NCAA qualifiers and eight EIWA place winners in one season, the program's first all-American in two decades, and academic ranking as third nationally with a 3.2917 team cumulative grade-point average. Awards include EIWA Coach of the Year in 2005 and the Bob Bubb Coaching Excellence Award for NCAA Division I in 2011.

Brendan’s strong interpersonal skills, deep knowledge of wrestling and passion for student athletes is an ideal fit for Beat the Streets. He will bring these skills to bear on a strong partnership with the NYC Department of Education to raise Beat the Streets to new heights in order to benefit thousands of New York City youth through the sport of wrestling.

Originally from Long Island, Brendan and his wife Julia look forward to returning to New York City. We hope you will join us in welcoming them back.
