Freestyle wrestler Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) was named as a finalist for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Best of February Awards as the Male Olympic Athlete of the Month.

2012 Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs won two major international tournaments in February with dominant performances at 74 kg/163 lbs.
At the highly respected Alexander Medved International in Minsk, Belarus on Feb. 6, his first competition since winning the 2015 World Championships, Burroughs won three of his four matches by technical fall to claim the gold medal at 74 kg/163 lbs.
In the championship finals, Burroughs dispatched Zelmkhan Khadziev of France, 14-3. Khadziev was fifth at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas. His first two matches were 10-0 technical falls over Pedro Soto of Puerto Rico and Abdullah Arslan of Turkey. Burroughs semi-final was a notch closer as he won 5-0 over Soner Demirtas of Turkey.
On Feb. 27, he added a 74 kg gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Frisco, Texas, the annual continental championships. Burroughs won all four of his matches by technical fall, including a rousing finals match which featured tremendous action and crowd participation, a 12-2 technical fall over Carlos Arturo Izquierdo Mendez of Colombia.
His other technical falls were over Pedro Martinez Chen of Guatemala, 10-0, Francisco Soler Tanco of Puerto Rico and Ilya Abelev of Canada, 14-2
Burroughs extended his career record to an amazing 122-2. Burroughs was a 2012 Olympic champion, has won three World gold medals (2011, 2013, 2015) and also a 2014 World bronze. He was a two-time NCAA champion for Nebraska and a Hodge Trophy winner. Burroughs was a New Jersey state high school champion for Winslow Township High School. He was also named 2015 USOC Male Athlete of the Year.
The other finalists for Best of February Male Olympic Athlete of the Month are Chris Mazdzer (luge), River Radamus (alpine skiing), Thomas Walsh (paralympic alpine skiing) and McLain Ward (equestrian).
