Tamyra Mensah receives day one draw in Olympic Test Event in Brazil

RIO DE JANIERO, Brazil – 2016 U.S. Open champion Tamyra Mensah (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) has weighed in and received her first round draw at 69 kg/152 lbs. for the first day of the Olympic Test Event on Saturday, held in the Olympic venue for wrestling.
Mensah opens against Camila Fama Tristao of Brazil, who was third in the 2012 Pan American Championships.
Mensah’s weight includes Olympic and World champion Natalia Vorobieva of Russia, 2015 World silver medalist Zhou Feng of China and 2012 Junior World champion and 2015 Pan American Games champion Dorothy Yeats of Canada. Yeats and Vorobieva will compete in a first-round match.
Mensah won a Special Wrestle-off over 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller of the U.S. Army WCAP last Friday to earn her spot on this tour.
Mensah was second in the 2015 World Team Trials at this weight. She is a past WCWA college national champion for Wayland Baptist University.
Two other weight classes will be held on Saturday, 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and 58 kg/128 lbs. The USA does not have any entries in those weight classes.
