World champions Burroughs, Snyder remain No. 1 in February UWW World freestyle rankings

2015 World champions Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) and Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) remain No. 1 in the UWW World freestyle rankings for February 2016. The last UWW rankings were released in December 2015.
Burroughs, who won his third career World title, to go with a 2012 Olympic gold medal, remained on top of the 74 kg/163 lbs. World freestyle rankings. Burroughs has not competed since the World Championships in Las Vegas in September.
Snyder, who became the youngest U.S. Senior World champion when he won the 97 kg/213 lbs. World title in Las Vegas in September, also remained in the No. 1 spot. Snyder placed third in the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Russia last weekend
2015 World bronze medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC/Nebraska RTC) remains No. 4 in the UWW World freestyle ranking at 70 kg/154 lbs. Green has not competed since winning his World medal in Las Vegas, but is expected to drop to 65 kg/143 lbs. this season.
Overall, there are eight American men’s freestyle wrestlers with UWW World rankings.
Returning to the rankings at No. 11 at 97 kg/213 lbs. is 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC). Varner won a silver medal at the Ivan Yarygin International in Russia last weekend.
The USA has three wrestlers in the rankings at 97 kg/213 lbs. as 2016 Dave Schultz Memorial International champion J.D. Bergman, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC/OTC) joins Snyder and Varner in the rankings. Bergman moves in at No. 18.
The USA has two athletes ranked at 65 kg/143 lbs. At No. 13 is 2015 U.S. World Team member Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa (New York AC/Hawkeye WC). The other American is Logan Stieber (Columbus, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC), now at No. 17. Both competed in the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Russia and did not medal. They are ranked lower than their December rankings.
2015 U.S. World Team member Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) remains in the rankings, falling to the No. 19 spot. Rey has not competed since the December rankings.
U.S. wrestlers who dropped out of the rankings since December were Tony Ramos, Iowa City, Iowa (Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), who was No. 13 at 57 kg, Reece Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC/Ohio RTC), who was No. 17 at 61 kg, Jimmy Kennedy, Ann Arbor, Mich. (New York AC/Cliff Keen WC), who was No. 20 at 65 kg and Ed Ruth (Tempe, Ariz. (Sunkist Kids), who was No. 19 at 86 kg.
A large number of U.S. men’s freestyle athletes will compete in February in international events, which could affect the next UWW Rankings.
