James “Jim” Vollrath passed away last night after a battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma — a rare type of bone cancer that originates in the cells and is difficult to diagnose. Friends and teammates posted tributes on social media this morning remembering Vollrath and offering support to his family and friends.

Vollrath attended Penn State from 2009-2013 and wrestled for the team at 157 pounds. He ended his senior season with an overall record of 72-24. He went to Council Rock South High School where he earned All-American honors. Vollrath studied kinesiology while he was at Penn State.

Girlfriend Taryn Marino created a GoFundMe in June to raise money for Vollrath’s fight, and friends and family were encouraged to use the hashtag #pincancer to support him.
