Manheim, Pennsylvania -- Upset victories by Steven Polakowski, Jake Short and Nick Wanzek sparked Minnesota's 22-18 victory over then-No. 10 Michigan on Sunday in Big Ten competition. The victory pushed Minnesota up five spots this week to No. 13 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
The Gophers (3-1) also picked up a weekend win in East Lansing, downing Michigan State 20-17 on Friday. Lehigh (5-1, 3-0 EIWA) moved into the Top 10 after losses by Michigan and NC State. The Mountain Hawks also picked up wins against then-No. 24 Drexel 31-3 and Princeton 34-3. Michigan's loss to Minnesota dropped the Wolverines four spots to No. 14.
NC State (3-1) lost to No. 7 Nebraska 22-10 in Raleigh, and the Wolfpack dual lineup took a considerable hit when it learned nationally ranked 157-pounder Max Rohskopf would be lost for the season. Nebraska started its eastern swing with a 30-6 win over previously-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Idle Oklahoma State (4-0) remained No. 1, while No. 2 Penn State improved to 4-0 after blanking Binghamton in a sold-out Rec Hall 46-0 on Sunday. No. 3 Iowa (5-0) remained unbeaten after a home win over rival Iowa State 26-9.
The biggest dual of the week saw No. 4 Ohio State (4-0) down No. 5 Missouri (3-1) in the first NCAA wrestling dual to feature two returning Olympic medalists. Olympic bronze medalist J'den Cox of Missouri received a fight from Ohio State freshman Kollin Moore, but Cox came away with a 6-4 decision at 197 pounds. Olympic champion Kyle Snyder dominated Missouri freshman Austin Myers, earning a second-period fall at heavyweight in the Buckeyes' 30-9 win over coach Brian Smith and the Tigers.
Rutgers, which also lost the services of its 157-pounder Richie Lewis for the season, picked up a 22-12 win over Maryland in the first Big Ten dual for each team this season. Illinois saw its first dual action of the year, a 30-10 win over SIU Edwardsville.
Wisconsin improved to 3-0 with weekend wins over Indiana and Northern Iowa. The Badgers needed the third criteria to get past the Hoosiers 20-19. Wins by Eli Stickley at 133 pounds and back-to-back technical falls by Ricky Robertson at 197 pounds and Connor Medbery at heavyweight pushed the Badgers past then-No. 21 Northern Iowa 23-12 in a matchup of ranked teams on Sunday.
