Wechter places fifth in Greco-Roman at Kristjan Palusalu Memorial in Estonia

TALLINN, Estonia - John Wechter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) placed fifth at 98 kg/215 lbs. at the Kristjan Palusalu Memorial on Saturday.
Wechter finished with a 2-2 record in a weight class with 15 entries. He opened with an 8-0 technical fall over Gerrith Pungas of Estonia. He was defeated in the second round by three-time World Team member Radoslaw Grzybicki of Poland, 0-8.
When Grzybicki reached the finals, Wechter was pulled back into repechage. He won his next match, a technical fall over Johannes Holmsroem of Sweden. In his bronze-medal bout, Wechter was edged by Nikolai Krysov of Ukraine, 3-4.
Wechter was the only American entered in the tournament.
Wechter was a 2013 U.S. Open champion and was second in both the 2014 U.S. Open and World Team Trials. He is currently No. 3 on the U.S. Greco-Roman national team and a top contender for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team.
