Lester wins silver medal, Lamb takes fifth on final day of Greco-Roman at CISM World Games

MUNGYEONG, Korea – Sergeant Justin Lester of the U.S. Army won a silver medal at 75 kg/165 lbs. on the final day of Greco-Roman at the 6th Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Games on Saturday at the Mungyeong Indoor Gymnasium.
Lester, a two-time World bronze medalist and 2012 Olympian, moved up from 71 kg/156 lbs., where he placed eighth at the recent World Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. He won the only medal for the USA in this four-day wrestling competition, which featured Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle.
The CISM Military World Games is a major multi-sport event, which featured over 80 nations and 5,000 athletes from around the world.
The last American to win a Greco-Roman medal at the CISM World Games was Marcel Cooper, who took a bronze at 69 kg in Zagreb, Croatia in 1999.
Lester opened with three straight technical fall wins to reach the finals. He defeated 2014 Junior World bronze medalist Ibrahim Ghanem of Egypt, 8-0 in the second period. He then put away Geli Qing of China, who was fifth in the 2014 Asian Games, by a 10-0 margin in the quarterfinals. His semifinal victim was 2012 European Cadet bronze medalist Dawid Klimek of Poland, who he stopped 10-2 in the second period.
In the finals, he was defeated by Kim Jin-Hyeok of Korea, 2-6. Kim was a 2012 Olympian and placed fifth in the 2015 Asian Championships.
Corporal Matthew Lamb of the U.S. Army placed fifth at 130 kg/286 lbs. He was defeated in his opener by two-time World champion and 2012 Olympic silver medalist Heiki Nabi of Estonia, 0-3. Nabi went on to win the tournament, pulling Lamb back into repechage. In his bronze-medal bout, Lamb fell to Lukasz Banak of Poland, 0-7. Banak was fifth in the 2011 World Championships.
Sergeant Jamel Johnson of the U.S. Army went 1-1 at 66 kg/145.5 lbs and placed ninth. He won an 8-0 technical fall over Nadir of Pakistan in the first round, then fell to Hussein Mohamed of Egypt by technical fall, 0-8. When Mohamed failed to reach the finals, Johnson was eliminated.
2015 Pan American Games champion Captain Jonathan Anderson of the U.S. Army lost to two-time Asian Games silver medalist Se-Yeol Lee of host Korea, 2-4, in his first match at 85 kg/187 lbs. Lee lost his next match to
2004 Olympic champion and 2007 World champion Alexei Mishin of Russia, which eliminated Anderson from entering the repechage. Anderson finished ninth.
Korea had two champions on Sunday, Kim Jin-Hyeok at 75 kg/165 lbs. and 2013 Asian champion Kim Ji-Hun at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. Other champions were two-time World champion Heiki Nabi of Estonia at 130 kg/286 lbs. and 2015 World champion Zhan Beleniuk of Ukraine at 85 kg/187 lbs.
