UPDATE: Reenan wins gold and USA takes seven Pan Am Junior Greco-Roman medals

HAVANA, Cuba – Texas star Nick Reenan won a gold medal at 74 kg, one of seven U.S. wrestlers to win a medal in Greco-Roman on the first day of the Pan American Junior Championships.


The USA finished second in the team standings behind Cuba, and ahead of third-place Venezeula


Reenan won his first two matches by technical fall, then edged Jhonny Betancourt Blanco of Venezuela in the finals, 2-0, scoring both points on passivity calls.


Winning a silver medal at 66 kg was Danny Boychuck of New Jersey, who won his first two matches and fell in the finals to a Cuban opponent, Francisco Santos.


Five Americans won bronze medals in their weight class:

• Gavin Teasdale, Rices Landing, Pa. at 50 kg

• Taylor LaMont, Mapleton, Utah at 60 kg

• Chris Weiler, Biglerville, Pa. at 84 kg

• Ethan Andersen, Des Moines, Iowa at 96 kg

• Michael Rogers, Spring Mills, Pa. at 120 kg


All eight of the American men wrestlers will also wrestle in freestyle on Friday. The women’s freestyle tournament will be held on Thursday.
