By putting six into the gold-medal finals, Cornell extended its lead over Lehigh, and heads into the medal-match finals in strong position to win its ninth straight EIWA Championships.

Lehigh, which trailed by just five points on Friday night, put four into the finals to stay well ahead of the rest of the field, but catching Cornell will not happen, as the lead has been extended to 19 points.

There were three Lehigh vs. Cornell semifinals, with two of them going to the Big Red. All went according to seed, and all were very hard-fought, exciting battles.

In the first of the Cornell-Lehigh battles, NCAA runner-up and top seed Nahshon Garrett of Cornell was dominant on the feet, scoring five takedowns leading to a 12-5 win at 125. He will face No. 2 seed David Terao of American who pinned Paul Petrov of Bucknell in the first period in 2:12.

In another key head-to-head, top seed Mason Beckman of Lehigh rode out No. 4 seed Mark Grey (Cornell) to get 1:43 in riding time for a 2-1 win. Grey’s only point was on a clasping hands technical violation. He will battle No. 2 seed Kevin Devoy of Drexel, who needed a reversal with seven seconds to go to beat No. 6 seed Angelo Amenta of Columbia, 3-2.

At 197, No. 3 Elliot Riddick of Lehigh scored the first takedown of the bout in the second period to lead No. 2 seed Jace Bennett of Cornell. However, two Bennett escapes tied it all up at 2-2. In the third period, it was a Bennett counter takedown that was the difference in a 4-2 decision.

Joining Garrett and Bennett in the finals for Cornell were No. 1 seed Christopher Villalonga at 149, No. 1 seed Brian Realbuto at 157 pounds, No. 2 seed Dylan Palacio at 165 and No. 1 seed Gabe Dean of Cornell at 184.

Lehigh’s finalists include Beckman, No. 3 Randy Cruz at 141, No. 3 Santiago Martinez at 174 and No. 2 Nathaniel Brown at 184.

Bucknell slid into third place, followed by Columbia and Pennsylvania.
