Andy Bisek named 2014 USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year

Andy Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) was named 2014 Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year by USA Wrestling. It is the first time that Bisek has won this prestigious award.
Bisek won a bronze medal at 74 kg/163 lbs. at the 2014 World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He won the first World or Olympic medal for the USA in Greco-Roman since 2009, when Dremiel Byers captured a World silver medal.
Bisek won the U.S. World Team Trials in Daytona Beach, Fla. in June, defeating Jon Anderson in two straight matches and making his third U.S. World Team. He also won the U.S. Open title in Las Vegas, Nev. in April, his first Open title, with a 3-1 win over Anderson.
He won gold medals at three international events during the year, including the Pan American Championships in Mexico City in July, his second career Pan Am gold. He also won Granma Cup in Cuba in February, and the Dave Schultz Memorial International in Colorado Springs, Colo. in January.
Bisek had a 2-2 record at the Greco-Roman World Cup in Tehran, Iran in May. He also had a 3-0 record at the Jack Pinto Cup in Colorado Springs, Colo. in January.
Bisek is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete. Previously, he attended Northern Michigan University, where he was a member of its U.S. Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman program.
He is a native of Chaska, Minn., where he placed third in the 2004 Minnesota State High School Championships.
