MADISON, Wis. – Alyssa Lampe has won two World medals.
And she’s looking for more.
The Wisconsin native downed Olympic medalist and World champion Clarissa Chun to win the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament on Sunday at the Alliant Energy Center.
Lampe has finished third, third and fifth in the last three World Championships.
“There are no easy matches,” Lampe said. “I knew I had to work hard and work for those points. It’s a tough weight class.
Now Lampe will face 2015 U.S. Open champion Victoria Anthony in the women’s freestyle finals. Anthony, fifth in the 2013 Worlds, beat Lampe 6-4 in last month’s U.S. Open finals.
“It’s a good rivalry with Vicky,” Lampe said. “I still think it’s my time and this is my weight class. I just have to prove it.”
The best-of-3 finals are set for 4:45 p.m. Central. NBCSN is going live with a 90-minute broadcast from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Central.
Champions at the Trials advance to September’s World Championships in Las Vegas.
