Burroughs, Herbert, Snyder, Rey receive draws for Pan American Games

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada – The final four U.S. wrestlers set to compete at the Pan American Games have all weighed in and received their draws for the last day of wrestling competition in Toronto.


The final day of wrestling at the Pan American Games will feature four men’s freestyle weight classes. Wrestling will begin at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow with the finals set for 8 p.m. (EDT).


Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC), Jake Herbert (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC/Michigan RTC), Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) and Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley WC) will take center stage for the U.S. tomorrow in the men’s freestyle competition at the Hershey Centre.


Two-time World champion and Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs will face Olympic bronze medalist and three-time World medalist Livan Lopez of Cuba to open competition at 74 kg/163 lbs.


Both Burroughs and Lopez won the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Burroughs at 74 kg and Lopez at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. In addition, both men earned bronze medals at the World Championships at 74 kg last year.


Burroughs and Lopez last met at the Men’s Freestyle World Cup in Los Angeles, Calif. in April with Burroughs defeating Lopez 6-2.


World silver medalist and Olympian Jake Herbert is set to face Ricardo Baez of Argentina in the opening round at 86 kg/189 lbs. Herbert won the 2011 Pan American Games at 84 kg/185 lbs.


World Team member Kyle Snyder will wrestle Yuri Maier of Argentina in the quarterfinals at 97 kg/213 lbs. Maier won a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games in Greco-Roman and is a two-time Pan American Championships silver medalist in freestyle.


Pan American Championships gold medalist Zach Rey will face Rene Silva Rios of Nicaragua in the quarterfinals at 125 kg/275 lbs.
