United States sending strong team to Pan American Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs, World champion Adeline Gray and World medalist Andy Bisek will lead the 2015 U.S. Pan American Wrestling Team at the Pan American Games on July 15-18 in Toronto, Canada.
The four-day tournament will feature competition in freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. It will be contested at the Mississauga Sports Centre.
The U.S. has qualified 16 total wrestlers for the event. A live webcast will be provided of the event on ESPN3.
Burroughs captured a Pan Am Games title in 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He also is a two-time World champion and three-time World medalist. He will lead the U.S. at September’s World Championships in Las Vegas.
Burroughs is joined on the American squad by fellow 2011 Pan American gold medalists Tervel Dlagnev and Jake Herbert.
Dlagnev, a 2012 Olympian, earned his second World bronze medal in 2014. He just made the 2015 U.S. World Team at 125 kg/275 lbs.
Herbert also is back in the American lineup. The 2009 World silver medalist and 2012 Olympian has returned to competition this season to make his third World Team at 86 kg/189 lbs.
Veteran Brent Metcalf is another wrestler to watch at Pan Ams at 65 kg/143 lbs. Metcalf just made his fourth World Team in freestyle and has beaten a number of World medalists during his career.
Keep an eye on 19-year-old phenom Kyle Snyder as well. The 2013 Junior World champion knocked off Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner to make his first World Team at 97 kg/213 lbs.
Tony Ramos, who just made his second World Team, is another medal contender for the U.S. in freestyle at 57 kg/125.5 lbs.
Gray is a two-time World champion and four-time World medalist in women’s freestyle. She is ranked No. 1 in the World at 75 kg/165 lbs. and will compete in the Worlds in Vegas.
Two-time World medalist Alyssa Lampe will shoot for a Pan American Games title for the U.S. at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She has placed third, third and fifth at the last three World Championships.
Veterans Whitney Conder (53 kg/116.5 lbs.) and Erin Clodgo (63 kg/138.75 lbs.) also will be shooting for titles for the U.S. women’s team. Both won titles at the U.S. World Team Trials.
Bisek earned a bronze medal at the 2014 World Championships, ending a five-year medal drought for the United States in Greco-Roman. Bisek remains a top contender for a World title at 75 kg/165 lbs.
Two-time Olympian Spenser Mango was fifth in the World in 2013 and 2014. Mango, who competes at 59 kg/130 lbs., has made every U.S. Olympic and World Team since 2008.
Heavyweight Robby Smith, fifth at the 2013 Worlds, is another top Greco wrestler to watch.
Veterans Bryce Saddoris (66 kg/145.5 lbs.), Jon Anderson (85 kg/187 lbs) and Caylor Williams (98 kg/216 lbs.) also are top medal hopefuls for the American Greco team.
