It will be the past versus the present at FPL 4 this Sunday as 2008 Olympian Ben Askren will square off against one of the top contenders for the 86 kg U.S. World Team spot in 2015, Clayton Foster, in the main event of the evening at 190 pounds.
Foster finished in fourth place at the 2014 World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. last May after an impressive runner-up showing at the U.S. Open in April. He was a NCAA runner-up for Oklahoma State University in 2011.
At the 2014 Men’s Freestyle World Cup Foster went undefeated and secured victories over the reigning World Champion at the time Ibragim Aldatov of Ukraine and World and Olympic Bronze medalist Ehsan Lashgari of Iran.
"I am one of the top wrestlers in America," Foster said. "Ben is too old and too small to handle me. I can't wait to beat Ben Askren on January 25th."
In addition to representing the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, Askren was a two-time NCAA Champion for the University of Missouri. In the mma realm Askren has secured titles in the Welterweight division in both the Bellator Fighting Championships and One FC.
"I am pumped to be competing in FPL against someone as high level as Clayton Foster," Askren said. "My whole life I have looked for challenges and this is a big one, I am looking to show the wrestling world I am still one of the best in America.”
Ben’s younger brother Max will compete in the co-main event against top senior level competitor Deron Winn at 190 pounds.
Askren was a NCAA Champion in 2010 for the University of Missouri while Winn was a two-time JUCO National Champion for Meramec in 2008 and 2009.
