The group pairings for the 2015 Men’s Freestyle World Cup in Los Angeles, Calif. were released by United World Wrestling live from the #Super8 campaign launch in Lausanne, Switzerland this morning.

The United States is slated to face Russia, Cuba and Mongolia in Group A competition. At the 2014 World Championships Russia finished atop the standings in first place, with Cuba finishing in fifth place and Mongolia in sixth place.

The defending World Cup Champions, Iran, headline a tough Group B pool that also includes Belarus, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

At the conclusion of group competition countries will cross bracket and compete in one additional dual to determine final placements.

Implementing a change in the World Cup format lowering the number of competing teams from 10 down to eight, only the top seven teams from last year’s World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in addition to the host team from the U.S., qualified for this year’s World Cup.

Iran claimed the top spot at last year’s Men’s Freestyle World Cup over the runners-up, Russia, and third place team, the United States. Iran defeated Russia 6-2 in the championship dual.

The 2015 Men’s Freestyle World Cup will be held April 11-12 at The Forum, presented by Chase, in Los Angeles Calif.
