PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jarrod Patterson, a former All-American and two-time Big 12 Champion at the University of Oklahoma, has joined the Brown University wrestling staff as an assistant coach, head coach Todd Beckerman announced on Tuesday.
"We are really excited to add Jarrod Patterson to our coaching staff,” Beckerman said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge of the sport and will have an immediate impact with our lightweights on the team.”
Patterson earned All-America honors in 2010-11 after finishing in seventh place in the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA Championships. He captured Big 12 titles at 125 pounds as a freshman in 2009-10 and as a redshirt senior in 2013-14.
A native of Cushing, Okla., Patterson concluded his career with a 107-32 overall record. He gained Academic All-Big 12 First Team accolades three times (2011, 2012, 2014) and garnered a spot on the NWCA Division I All-Academic Team in the same three seasons.
“He is also still competing to make the 2016 Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His drive and passion will translate well with our team and program goals,” Beckerman said.
Brown begins the dual meet portion of its season this weekend with a trip to California. On Saturday, the Bears compete at Cal Poly (4 p.m. EST) and at Cal State Bakersfield (9:30 p.m. EST). On Sunday, the team continues its Golden State swing with meets vs. Menlo College (12:30 p.m. EST) and at Stanford (3:30 p.m. EST).
