Manheim, Pa. – Rutgers continues its climb up the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll after a pair of weekend wins that pushed the Scarlet Knights to 9-1 on the season and a No. 10 ranking in the poll released on Tuesday.
Rutgers beat then-No. 7 Cornell 21-13 and picked up only the third win in school history over the Big Red on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Cornell (1-2) slid seven spots to No. 14. The top five teams stayed put as Penn State (4-0) remained No. 1, followed by Iowa (6-0), Ohio State (3-0), Oklahoma State (2-1) and Nebraska (5-0).
Nebraska was impressive in beating Cornell and got past a feisty Princeton team in New York. Princeton (1-2) moves into the Top 25 for the first time this season despite losing to both Illinois and Nebraska.
Minimal shifts occurred do to a light week overall in Division I. Virginia Tech (3-1) remained at No. 6 and Oklahoma (5-0) moved up to No. 7 following Cornell’s drop. Missouri (2-0), which picked up a conference win over Northern Iowa, moved up to No. 8, while Michigan (3-1) moved up one spot to No. 9
Many of the nation’s top teams will be at this coming weekend’s Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and there’s fewer than 20 Division I duals as the first semester is coming to a close for many of the nation’s colleges.
