Freestyle World Cup to air on Universal Sports Network and NBCSN on Sunday, April 12

The Freestyle Wrestling World Cup championship matches will be broadcast nationwide on Universal Sports Network and NBCSN on Sunday, April 12. Same day coverage from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Universal Sports Network followed by live coverage on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET.
The Freestyle World Cup features the top eight men’s freestyle wrestling teams in the world. World and Olympic medalists expected to compete include American stars Jordan Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic champion and two-time World champion, and Jake Varner, a 2012 Olympic champion. World powers Iran and Russia are included in the field, along with Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Mongolia and Turkey.
Universal Sports Network’s coverage of the bronze-medal dual meet will air at 7:30 p.m. ET. The teams in the bronze-medal dual meet will not be determined until Sunday morning. Calling the action for the Universal Sports Network bronze-medal broadcast are play-by-play announcer Jason Knapp and Olympic champion Brandon Slay providing color commentary.
This is the second straight year that Universal Sports Network has provided coverage from the Freestyle Wrestling World Cup.
The gold-medal dual meet will then follow live on NBCSN, starting at 9:00 p.m. ET. The teams in the gold-medal dual meet will not be determined until Sunday morning. The broadcast team for the NBCSN’s gold medal match coverage are veteran play-by-play announcer Jason Knapp with color commentary from Olympic champion Rulon Gardner.
This is the first of five major USA Wrestling events which will be broadcast during the 2015 season in a historic agreement with NBC Sports Group and Universal Sports Network. NBCSN and Universal Sports Network will combine to present nine USA Wrestling telecasts from five events, including five live telecasts, and more than 12 hours of total coverage, the most live content in a single season in USA Wrestling history.
