California sweeps first and second place trophies at Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – It was a good day for California girls wrestling, as two teams from California met in the finals of the 2014 Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals.
Team California A won Pool A, and Team California B won Pool B, placing both squads in the finals. The California teams decided not to wrestle each other, with California A taking the championship trophy and California B winning the runner-up trophy. Officially California A won by forfeit over California B, and both teams posed together with the first and second place trophies.
California A dominated Pool A, beating Team Texas B, 61-3, Team Illinois 57-9 and the Draw Team, 61-4. Team California A was so strong, that it only lost four individual matches total in their three Pool A dual meet wins.
California B also won three times, beating Team Michigan 34-25, Team Texas 39-24 and Team Virginia 50-18.
With eight teams, including a draw team, it was the largest Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals ever held.
Team Michigan was third, winning a forfeit over Team Texas A in the bronze round. Placing fifth was Team Texas A, which beat Team Illinois 42-24 in the medal round. Virginia placed seventh. Draw teams may not earn a team place at the National Duals.
Last year, California 1 defeated Michigan, 39-12, in the finals of the Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals.
