Carlson and Miller to compete in special wrestle-off for 2014 World Team spot at 69 kg

2013 World Team member Veronica Carlson and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller will meet in a special wrestle-off to determine the 2014 U.S. World Team women’s freestyle spot at 69 kg/152 lbs.
Miller, the 2014 U.S. Open champion at 69 kg, was unable to compete in the 2014 U.S. World Team Trials due to injury. Carlson was the 2014 World Team Trials champion at 69 kg this past weekend in Madison, Wis.
Consistent with established USA Wrestling policy, Miller submitted a request for delay of trial, which was approved by the Women’s Sport Committee on Wednesday night.
The special wrestle-off between Carlson and Miller will be a best-of-3 series, with the date and location to be announced. The wrestle-off must occur before July 26.
Carlson (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) made the 2013 World Team and placed second behind Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at April’s U.S. Open.
“USA Wrestling followed protocol in this process and this was a committee decision,” U.S. National Coach Terry Steiner said. “I’m looking forward to establishing the World Team member at 69 kilos. Veronica and Randi are both proven competitors who are capable of winning medals at the World Championships.”
