No. 13 Pitt upsets No. 5 Oklahoma State in Pittsburgh, 19-18

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – No. 5 Oklahoma State suffered its fourth loss of the season on Sunday to the No. 13 Pittsburgh Panthers, 19-18. With the dual tied at 18-18 after ten bouts, the Panthers were awarded the tiebreaking point for their pin at 149 pounds, where Mike Racciato of Pitt pinned No. 7 Josh Kindig in 1:37.
Heading into the final three bouts, the Pokes led 18-9, but that did not deter the Panthers from storming back.
No. 18 Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma State faced No. 7 Max Thomusseit and was narrowly defeated, 8-6.
Cowboy redshirt freshman Kyle Crutchmer bumped up two weight classes to take on No. 20 Nick Bonaccorsi at 197 pounds. Crutchmer took Bonaccorsi to overtime but was taken down in sudden victory, giving the Panther a 3-1 win.
No. 16 Austin Marsden met up with PJ Tasser for the second time this season in the day’s final bout. Tasser snatched the overtime victory tying the team score and ultimately sealing the win for the Panthers.
For the Cowboys, the day was highlighted by a couple of bonus-point victories from Eddie Klimara at 125 pounds and Alex Dieringer at 157 pounds.
Klimara put the Cowboys on the board in style with a 15-4 major decision over Anthony Zanetta. Klimara had an explosive third period, scoring 10 points to give him his fourth major decision of the year.
No. 5 Jon Morrison handed No. 17 Shelton Mack a 2-0 loss, earning an escape and a point for riding time.
Losses at 141 pounds and 149 pounds gave the Panthers the lead, but it was quickly taken back by Oklahoma State when No. 2 Alex Dieringer shut out Eric Nutter with a 17-0 technical fall.
Tyler Caldwell and Chris Perry of Oklahoma State earned close wins by decision at 165 and 174 pounds. Caldwell defeated Geno Morelli, 3-1, while Perry earned his win over seventh-ranked Tyler Wilps in sudden victory, 5-3.
