USA Wrestling sets a new record high for corporate sponsorship combined cash and value-in-kind revenue in 2012-13.
Despite a year when USA Wrestling led the fight domestically and internationally to reinstate wrestling on the Olympic program, it was still able to raise a record amount of revenue from corporate sponsors for the organization.
Putting USA Wrestling corporate sponsorships over the top last year was a significant contribution from Hewlett Packard Financial Services. HPFS provided two top-line computing-Internet servers, 25 high-end laptop computers complete with 24 inch HD monitors and docking stations for use by USA Wrestling staff. By infusing this technology into USA Wrestling’s national office, Hewlett Packard has upgraded the level of Internet and computer assets for the national governing body of the sport of wrestling for several years to come.
A corporate sponsor of USA Wrestling’s for over 30 years, ASICS led the way providing valuable resources for USA Wrestling to achieve its mission. From coast-to-coast and from Alaska to Hawaii, ASICS is the biggest corporate supporter on all levels of the sport.
Perhaps no other sponsor had a bigger one-two punch of cash sponsorship and program activation than Liberty Mutual Insurance did. Through its “Responsible Sports” educational platforms and its community grant program, Liberty Mutual directly helped to introduce the sport and educate hundreds of thousands of coaches and parents to be better influencers of America’s youth wrestlers. USA Wrestling was able to almost double the goal Liberty Mutual set for Internet traffic from USA Wrestling media platforms to Liberty Mutual’s platforms. Additionally, four wrestling clubs each won $2,500 grants, and Liberty Mutual also provided valuable discounts on insurance to USA Wrestling members.
USA Wrestling’s success is closely linked to the care provided to its athletes by Maximized Living, a successful company led by former elite wrestler Dr. Ben Lerner. Maximized Living has been a USA Wrestling corporate sponsor since 2009. In addition to the financial support provided by the partnership, Maximized Living doctors attend nearly every major USA Wrestling event, offering chiropractic services and providing overall wellness to our athletes. Over 180 Maximized Living physicians traveled to London in 2012 to support Team USA! It is a testament to Maximized Living that current World and Olympic Champion Jordan Burroughs has appeared representing USA Wrestling several times at Maximized Living corporate events. The same can be said of two-time World Team member J.D. Bergman.
New USA Wrestling corporate partner Cliff Keen Athletic really stepped up during the Olympic crisis. Along with USA Wrestling’s official licensee, All-American Wrestling Supply, Cliff Keen Athletic donated thousands of tee shirts to serve as “wearable billboards” to “Keep Olympic Wrestling”! USA Wrestling will be forever grateful to Tom Keen and his staff at Cliff Keen Athletic for putting the sport first!
Safety for its athletes is paramount to USA Wrestling and skin diseases are a threat to the health of those wrestlers. Matguard USA has emerged as the industry leader in the prevention of skin diseases, and USA Wrestling is pleased to welcome Matguard USA to its family of corporate sponsors. Matguard USA is on the cutting edge of skin disease prevention and is continuing to develop more and better tools for coaches, parents and wrestlers to stay free from skin infections.
The NYU Langone Medical Center, Hilton Hotels, BLUEO4® and Tanita round out USA Wrestling’s corporate sponsors. Each contributes in different but important ways to benefit the world’s oldest and greatest sport.
“Each of our corporate partners are just that… partners,” said Larry Nugent, USA Wrestling’s Director of Development. “Each brings assets to USA Wrestling that go beyond just financial considerations and in turn, USA Wrestling leverages its marketing platforms and good will to help those companies grow”.
Nugent credits his department’s success to hard work, creativity and USA Wrestling’s investment in developing and maintaining strong communication and event platforms.
“Through a sponsorship with a sport organization, a company wants to create brand awareness, advertise one's products and services, as well as reaffirm the company's reputation as a responsible corporate citizen in the business world. Because USA Wrestling has stayed current with cutting edge communication technologies, our sponsors can leverage those technologies to get their message out. One of USA Wrestling four primary business principals is to network the wrestling community and the communication vehicles we developed to accomplish that helped attract sponsors to USA Wrestling,” said Nugent.
