Aaron Polansky, the former USA Wrestling state chairperson in Massachusetts and a leader in the local wrestling community, has written a new book in which the sport of wrestling plays a key role.
'Walk a Mile in My Corduroys' is a true short story about how the sport of wrestling changed the life of a hearing impaired, overweight high school student in a New England High School.
Lives were changed on a multitude of levels that day the student was found by a teacher eating lunch in the dark basement of his school. He inspired others, entire school cultures beyond the walls of his own high school, while his life was transformed simultaneously.
“It's a 15-minute quick read written in an effort to 'Pay it Forward' and capture the power of kindness, decision making, and positive attitudes,” said Polansky.
The book includes a couple pages of reflective questions that can be used by teachers/administrators for the purpose of social-emotional development or as part of a humanities curriculum. The book is being used as a pro-active teaching tool for anti-bullying issues in many districts across New England.
Partial proceeds to benefit the 'Walk a Mile Scholarship' at Bristol County Agricultural High School for a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary school in the field of teaching/education.
Polansky was the 2011 Wrestling USA Magazine Massachusetts Man of the Year and the 2013 Virco/NASSP Massachusetts Assistant Principal of the Year. Polansky has recently launched a motivational speaking company and presents at Middle Schools and High Schools nationwide. His company, Geek Sox, has a simple philosophy founded in the notion that if we are kind, honest, and working to improve situations, we can be proud of who we are.
