The Journeymen Wrestling Club of Albany, N.Y. has organized private screenings of the movie Foxcatcher, with Olympic champion and two-time World champion Mark Schultz as their special guest.

The screenings will be held at the Spectrum 8 Theaters at 290 Delaware Street in Albany, N.Y. on Sunday, December 14.

The first screening, set for 12:00 noon, has been sold out. A second screening has been added on December 14 at 12:45 p.m. There will be a special Q&A opportunity with Mark Schultz at both screenings.

A portion of the proceeds from the screening will benefit the Journeymen Wrestling Club. For more information, visit www.journeymenwrestling.com

The movie tells the story of Olympic champion Mark Schultz, and the murder of his older brother Dave Schultz by John E. du Pont at Foxcatcher Farms in Pennsylvania. Mark Schultz is played by Channing Tatum in the movie.

A wrestling clinic, featuring Mark Schultz, will be held at Colonie High School in Albany, N.Y., starting at 9:30 a.m. on December 14, with a cost of just $25. Schultz will also be conducting a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu clinic while he is in the Albany area.

“Mark Schultz has been absent from the wrestling community for some time. I’m proud that not only has our group been able to bring him back into the fold, but that our younger generation can learn from one of our most decorated warriors,” said Frank Popolizio of Journeymen Wrestling

Mark Schultz is one of the greatest wrestlers in American history. He was a three-time NCAA champion for the University of Oklahoma. Schultz won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Calif. He added World gold medals in 1985 and 1987, and earned a spot on the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team. He also won his only bout in the UFC when he tried Mixed Martial Arts.

His older brother Dave Schultz was also an NCAA champion for Oklahoma, and won an Olympic gold medal alongside Mark at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. He was a 1983 World champion and won seven World medals during his career. Recognized as one of the top technicians in wrestling, Dave was considered an ambassador of goodwill within international wrestling, with friends and fans across the world.

The movie Foxcatcher, directed by Academy Award winner Bennett Miller, is opening in theaters across the nation, after a November premier date. The movie features actors Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller, and has received critical acclaim.

“The ‘Foxcatcher’ experience is unquestionably a part of American wrestling history. I believe it’s incumbent upon us to know our history, good, bad or otherwise. Having Mark present for our private screening helps us to better understand the real life experience from the time period. We appreciate that Mark is willing to share his time, expertise and experiences with us. It should be an exciting four days,” said Popolizio.

ABOUT MARK SCHULTZ AND FOXCATCHER MOVIE

Mark Schultz is an Olympic and 2-time World Champion freestyle wrestler and a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He and his older brother, Dave Schultz, also a wrestler, were noted for both winning gold medals in wrestling in the same Olympics (1984). The Schultzes were the only brother pair to win both World and Olympic championships. The remarkable story of Mark Schultz is portrayed by Channing Tatum in Foxcatcher.

Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller star in this psychological drama directed by Bennett Miller (Moneyball). It tells the story of Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), who sees a way out from the shadow of his more celebrated wrestling brother Dave (Ruffalo) and a life of poverty when he is summoned by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont (Carell) to move onto his estate and train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Desperate to gain the respect of his disapproving mother, du Pont begins “coaching” a world-class athletic team and, in the process, lures Mark into dangerous habits, breaks his confidence and drives him into a self-destructive spiral. Based on actual events, Foxcatcher is a gripping and profoundly American story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness that was to end in tragedy.
