NANJING, China – The lone U.S. competitor in Greco-Roman at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, Mason Manville, continued his medal winning ways in Nanjing, earning the silver medal at 69 kg/152 lbs.

Wrestlers participating in the Youth Olympic Games competition are in the FILA Cadet age group (ages 15-17 years old).

Manville went undefeated in pool play, earning convincing victories over Jordan Marshall of New Zealand, 8-0, Nilton Soto of Peru, 8-0, and Karan Mosebach of Germany, 7-3, to secure a spot in the gold medal match against reigning Cadet European Champion and Cadet World bronze medalist Islambek Dadov of Azerbaijan.

In the finals, both wrestlers found points hard to come by. It was scoreless deep in the second period before Dadov earned a caution against Manville and scored a one-point lift to take the match, and the gold, 1-0.

“It’s great to be on the podium in Greco-Roman, especially after cadet worlds, where I placed eighth,” Manville said. “I won freestyle, but this medal is redemption for that performance.”

This tournament marks Manville’s second world-level medal in the FILA Cadet division this summer. Manville secured the gold at the Cadet World Championships in freestyle last month in Snina, Slovakia.

Manville is the reigning Cadet Pan American Champion in both Greco-Roman and freestyle.

Up next for Team USA in Nanjing, Daton Fix and Cade Olivas will take to the mat in the men’s freestyle competition on Wednesday, August 27.
