Craig Sesker promoted to Senior Communications Manager for USA Wrestling

Craig Sesker has been promoted to the position of Senior Communications Manager for USA Wrestling, the national governing body for wrestling in the United States.
Sesker joined USA Wrestling in March 2006 as its Communications Manager, working within USA Wrestling’s Communications Department. He assumed his new responsibilities as Senior Communications Manager in March 2014.
“Craig Sesker has been an important part of our Communications team, and has made substantial contributions to USA Wrestling and to the promotion of wrestling. We look forward to his expanded responsibility and leadership in the future, as we expand wrestling’s position with the media and the general public,” said Gary Abbott, Director of Communications and Special Projects.
Among his new or expanded responsibilities will include oversight of the production and printing process of USA Wrestler, on-site event media operations management, athlete biography and statistics record systems and working with stringers and contract staffing for USA Wrestling’s media outlets.
Sesker has served as editor of USA Wrestler, the official magazine of USA Wrestling and the largest circulation wrestling magazine in the world, since February 2009.
He has written thousands of articles, features and press releases for USA Wrestler, TheMat.com website and other USA Wrestling communications outlets. He has been part of USA Wrestling’s team effort to promote wrestling at all levels through media relations and event press operations. Sesker also has worked with USA Wrestling athletes, coaches, volunteers and others to publicize the sport.
Sesker has authored three wrestling books. His topics have included legendary wrestling coach and leader Bobby Douglas, the Omaha Skutt Catholic high school wrestling team, and was co-author of Saving Wrestling with Jamie Moffat, which chronicled the 2013 effort by the wrestling community to retain its Olympic status.
From 2000-2006, Sesker worked as a sportswriter for the Omaha World-Herald, a major daily newspaper where the coverage of wrestling was one of his assignments. Sesker won a national APSE award in 2004 and won first place in the state Associated Press contest for best sports story that same year.
From 1993-1999, Sesker was the sports editor for the Burlington Hawk Eye, a daily newspaper in Iowa where he managed a staff with four full-time and five part-time employees in the sports department. Previously, he was a sportswriter with The Hawk Eye from 1988-1993, where he won a national APSE writing award in 1991.
He was named the National Wrestling Media Association Print Journalist of the Year in 2001 and was named Journalist of the Year by W.I.N. Magazine in 2004. Sesker also received a special award from the National Wrestling Media Association for his book on Bobby Douglas.
Sesker graduated from Wartburg College in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in Communications Arts, with a concentration on journalism and public relations. He was named Outstanding Senior in Communications Arts at Wartburg. He began his career as a wrestling journalist in college, when he covered the wrestling team for his school newspaper. Sesker also worked in sports information while attending Wartburg.
He was a wrestler as a youth, starting in elementary school and competing through high school, where he was a two-time district qualifier and a four-year varsity starter.
