High school dual between Palmer Ridge & Broomfield held alongside Dave Schultz Memorial International on Friday, Feb. 1

This year's Dave Schultz Memorial International will collect a unique crowd on Friday, Feb. 1 during the men's freestyle competition at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Athletes from Colorado high schools Broomfield and Palmer Ridge will take a mat for a dual meet alongside the Senior men's freestyle wrestlers. This is the first time a high school dual meet has been held alongside the Dave Schultz Memorial, which enters its 15th year.
Broomfield Head Wrestling Coach Joseph Pereira said, "We're excited to be able to show our skills to an audience we would not normally have in our stands."
The dual meet will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 and occur simultaneously with 3rd place matches in men's freestyle for the Dave Schultz Memorial International. The evening session for men's freestyle begins at 4:00 p.m.
Broomfield High School is currently ranked No. 2 (4A) in Colorado and will have eight state-ranked wrestlers at the meet, according to the latest On the Mat Rankings.
Ranked at No. 1 for Broomfield is Derek Huff at 106 lbs., Drew Romero at 113 lbs., Phil Downing at 145 lbs. and Zach Stodden at 170 lbs. Other ranked Broomfield athletes are No. 5 Dylan Alvarez at 120 lbs., No. 6 DJ Zissimos at 195 lbs., No. 7 Jared Albo at 152 lbs. and No. 8 Austin Harris at 285 lbs.
Palmer Ridge High School currently has four ranked athletes: No. 3 Rylan Thalhammer at 113 lbs., No. 4 Erik Guy at 145 lbs., No. 7 Tyler Thalhammer at 138 lbs. and No. 12 Jonathan Dela Cruz at 220 lbs.
Giving the Palmer Ridge and Broomfield wrestlers a chance to watch some of the best wrestlers in the world and get them exposed to the sport on the Olympic level is a big goal of having the dual meet during Dave Schultz Memorial.
"It's a privilege to be able to participate in this great event that honors one of our nation's greatest wrestlers" Pereira said. "Participating allows our athletes the opportunity to watch and be around the best our nation has to offer: wrestlers, coaches and facilities."

Adult All Session Pass: $20
Adult One Day Ticket: $15 per day
Adult per Session Tickets: $10 (Session I - Preliminaries OR Session II - Semis thru Finals)
High School Students (with I.D.): $5 per day
Senior Citizens (62+): $5 per day
Youth (5-14 years old): $4 per day
