Tellgren and Rupp win bronze medals at Gedza International in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia - U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn./USOEC) and Brandon Rupp (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) claimed bronze medals at the Ljudomir Ivanovic-Gedza International on Saturday.
Tellgren defeated Joao Carvalho of Portugal, 1-0, 1-0 in a bronze medal bout at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. He finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Rupp won a bronze at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. defeating Roman Marcenko of Russia, 1-0, 0-1, 1-0 in the medal round. He also had a 2-1 record for the day.
Three other U.S. wrestlers qualified for bronze medal matches but were defeated and placed fifth: Nate Engel (St. Helena, Calif./USOEC/Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Chad Vandiver (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 60 kg/132 lbs and Peter Gounaridis (Leominster, Mass./Sunkist Kids) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Ten U.S. wrestlers entered the tournament, with five qualifying for the medal round.
Many of the wrestlers in this event will compete next week at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Szombethely, Hungary.
Coaching the U.S. team is Assistant National Greco-Roman coach Momir Petkovic, plus James Johnson and Kevin Bracken.
