Nation's top 17-20 year olds expected at FILA Junior Nationals in Cleveland, April 22 and 25

USA Wrestling is hosting the Men's FILA Junior National Championships in Cleveland, Ohio alongside the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships, April 22 and 25 at the Wolstein Center.
FILA Junior athletes will compete for the top spots in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. This age group of 17-20 year olds features some of the nation's top wrestlers, as well as underclassmen from the college level.
The national champions will earn the No. 1 position on the top of the ladder for the FILA Junior World Team Trials, set for May 28-29 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Winners of the FILA Junior World Team Trials will have the opportunity to wrestle in the Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, July 20-25.
2009 FILA Junior national freestyle champions who remain eligible at this age division and who may compete in Cleveland include Jordan Oliver of the Gator WC at 132 pounds and Chris Perry of the Gator WC at 185 pounds.
Oliver was a FILA Junior World bronze medalist last year and Perry also made the 2009 Junior World Team, placing fifth in his weight. Both Oliver and Perry attend Oklahoma State.
Other 2009 FILA Junior National champions who are eligible to return include Derek St. John of the Trojan WC at 154 pounds, Alex Meade of the Gator WC at 163 pounds and Reiland Geiger of the Minnesota Storm at 211.5 pounds. St. John competes for the Univ. of Iowa, and Meade wrestles for Oklahoma State.
Other 2009 Junior World Team freestyle members who are eligible to return are Carson Kuhn of Vandit WC at 110 pounds, Tony"ˆRamos of Izzy Style at 121 pounds and Jason"ˆChamberlain of the Bronco WC at 145.5 pounds. Ramos competes for the Univ. of Iowa and Chamberlain wrestles for Boise State.
Five 2009 FILA Junior Greco-Roman national champions who also made the 2009 Junior World Team can return this year.
They include Max Nowry at 110 pounds, Jimmy Chase at 132 pounds, Donald Vinson Jr. at 145.5 pounds, Ben Provisor at 163 pounds and Tyrell Fortune at 211.5 pounds. Chase placed fifth at the 2009 Junior Worlds.
Nowry and Provisor are with the USOEC program at Northern Michigan. Chase trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Vinson attends Binghamton Univ.
Other 2009 FILA Junior Greco-Roman Team members who return are Jesse Thielke of the Ringers at 121 pounds and Travis Rutt of the Badger WC at 185 pounds.
Other 2009 FILA Junior Greco-Roman national champions who remain eligible at this level are Ryan Mango of the New York AC at 121 pounds and Mark"ˆStenberg of the Elite School of Wrestling. Mango attends Stanford Univ., while Stenberg is with the USOEC program at Northern Michigan.
Many of the top nation's high school and young college wrestlers are expected to compete against each other.
David Taylor of the Nittany Lion WC, a past Junior World Team freestyle member, has announced that he will try out again for this team. Taylor attends Penn State and recently won the University National Championships in Akron, Ohio.
The FILA Junior Greco-Roman competition will be held Thursday, April 22 and FILA Junior freestyle event is on on Sunday, April 25.
Some FILA Junior Nationals competitors may also enter the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships this year.
