This weight class is dominated by many young talented wrestlers.
Leading the pack is 2009 U.S. Senior Nationals champion Adeline Gray. A senior in high school, she has only been competing on the Senior level for a year but is already making the weight class hers. She won the 2009 Dave Schultz Memorial International tournament and represented Team USA at the Women's World Cup in China. Last summer, she was the 2008 Junior World champion. She won the 2009 FILA Junior National champion which will send her to the Junior World Championships to defend her title. .
2009 U.S. Senior National silver medalist Sheila McCabe has emerged as a top challenger. She represented the U.S. at the Pan American Championships for additional experience.
2008 U.S. Nationals champion Stefenie Shaw won a WCWA National title this year and was the runner-up at University Nationals. She placed fifth at the U.S. Nationals this year.
Also from the collegiate level is 2009 U.S. Senior National bronze medalist Amber Miracle, WCWA National champion Lauren Knight, and 2009 FILA Junior Nationals champion Christen Paysee. All three athletes were medalists at the University Nationals; Knight claimed the University National title, Miracle placed third, and Paysee took the bronze medal at the University Nationals at 72 kg. It's possible that Paysee might move up a weight for World Team Trials.
