Through its National Coaches Education Program (NCEP), USA Wrestling is proud to present an expanded schedule of coaching education opportunity to its member coaches and the entire wrestling community.
"We are trying to make a truly educational program, where coaches really get value from the National Coaches Education Program and coaches membership with USA Wrestling" said NCEP Manager Sam Barber. "We will end up producing better educated coaches and more successful athletes. It is directly connected with our mission of winning more international medals."
Two NCEP Silver Colleges are planned. The first will be alongside the World Team Trials, presented by the U.S. Marines, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, May 27-31. The second will be held alongside the World Team Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., August 28-30.
"These are the best coaches clinics in the nation," said Barber. "Our staff features the top coaches in the nation, and we will bring in other key experts on a variety of topics.
There are currently 13 NCEP Bronze clinics planned, with more expected throughout the season. Two of the NCEP Bronze clinics are hosted online.
Coaches need a bronze certification to coach at the Cadet and Junior National competitions and Junior Regionals. In addition, a coach must be bronze certified to become a member of the National Coaches Pool and receive an international tour assignment.
Among the other activities are:
- Webinars, including a newly added program for April 1.
- NCEP Copper clinics across the nation. Please note you need Copper certification to coach at a Cadet Regional.
- Coaches Summits, with the Women's Spring Coaches Summit set for March 12-15, and the Fall Coaches Summit set for October 22-25.
- Free clinics for member coaches including one held alongside the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. on March 20
- The new Coaches Apprentice Program, which allows coaches to become part of a U.S. international tour team delegation.
- A new partnership with Coaches of Excellence to provide education on character-based coaching.
- Expanded online video instruction including technique, tactics and more.
