2009 FILA Junior Freestyle National finals set for Sat., April 11

After a long day of competition the gold medal finals matchups for the 2009 FILA Junior National Championships are set.
FILA Juniors, ages 17-20, includes many of the nations top high school wrestlers, as well as underclassmen from the college level.
2008 FILA Junior champion at 163 pounds Quentin Wright of Penn State moved up two weight classes from last year and pinned 2008 FILA Junior champion Dustin Kilgore of Golden Pride Wrestling Club in the semifinals to advance to the finals on Saturday. Wright placed third at the 2008 Junior Worlds. He will take on high school star Chris Perry of the Gator Wrestling Club. Perry a Stillwater, Okla., native, will wrestle for Oklahoma State University next year.
Many of the finals matchups with include top young stars from major college programs.
- At 60 kg/121.25 lbs. Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State will take on fellow Big 12 Conference competitor Andrew Long of Iowa State University.
- Alex Meade of Oklahoma State and Eren Civan of Columbia University will face off at 74 kg/163 lbs.
- At 79 kg/163 lbs., Jordan Blanton of Illinois University and Chris Sprangler of Iowa State.
- Ryland Geiger of Minnesota faces off against Chad Hanke of Oregon State University at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
- Another Big 12 matchup includes 2008 FILA Junior champion Dominique Bradley of Missouri and Eric Thompson of Iowa State at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Bradley was a member of the 2007 Junior World Team.
Another high school star in the finals is Derek St. John of the Trojan Wrestling Club who is from Iowa City, Iowa and will wrestle for the University of Iowa next year. He will wrestle against Tyler Davis of the Gator Wrestling Club at 70 kg/154.25 lbs.
The national champions will earn the No. 1 position for the FILA Junior World Team Trials, set for May 23-24 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The finals will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
