2008 Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Henry Cejudo returned home to Arizona for the first time since winning his 55 kg gold medal in Beijing, China on August 19.
Cejudo spent a number of years of his childhood in the Phoenix area, including attending Maryville High School as a freshman and sophomore, when he was a state high school wrestling champion.
He was involved in a number of activities while in Phoenix. Cejudo was honored at Maryville High School on Friday, September 12, and threw out the first pitch at the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. On Sunday, Cejudo also attended the Arizona Cardinals NFL game as a guest of the team.
Cejudo has been on a whirlwind tour since his exciting victory in Beijing, China. He was interviewed on numerous major national shows while still in China, including the NBC Today Show, the CBS Early Morning Show, the ABC Nightly News and many others.
After returning to the USA on August 23, he went immediately to Los Angeles, where he appeared on the NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno. His next stop was in New Jersey and New York City, for a Fuel the Dream celebration event and numerous media interviews, including an appearance on ESPN SportsCenter. The next stop was Chicago, Ill., where he appeared with numerous Olympic medalists on the Oprah Winfrey Show. There was a special segment about Henry on the Oprah broadcast. His next stop was to Japan, where he was a featured guest on the popular Ninja Warrior television show. He returned for a short visit to Los Angeles, prior to his arrival in Arizona on September 11.

WHAT: Henry Cejudo will receive a hero's welcome home from Maryvale High School when the Olympic Gold Medalist visits his former campus. Two assemblies to honor Henry Cejudo will be held in the gymnasium.
Henry Cejudo became the youngest U.S. wrestler ever to win an Olympic Gold Medal in freestyle wrestling (55 kg/ 121 lb. Division) August 19 in Beijing. Cejudo grew up in west-central Phoenix and attended Maryvale High as a freshman and sophomore, winning two state wrestling titles in 2003 and 2004 before moving to Colorado with his older brother, Angel, to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Angel Cejudo won four consecutive state titles while wrestling for the Maryvale Panthers.

(PHOENIX) - The Arizona Diamondbacks will welcome a number of athletes to Chase Field this weekend when the team hosts the Cincinnati Reds.
PGA Golfer and Scottsdale resident Chez Reavie will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Friday's 6:40 p.m. game. Reavie earned his first career PGA Tour win July 27 sporting the D-backs "A" logo on his Quagmire Golf shirt after shooting a final-round 70 to win the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario by three strokes over Billy Mayfair. The D-backs have sponsored the three-time ASU All-American during his rookie season on the PGA Tour starting with the FBR Open that was played in Scottsdale, Ariz. Jan. 31-Feb. 3. The D-backs' "D" snake logo is also visible on Reavie's Titleist golf bag.

Cejudo, whose parents are Mexican immigrants, attended Maryvale High School and became the youngest American to win a gold medal in freestyle wrestling.
Also during Saturday's game, the D-backs will honor 2008 ESPN ESPY Award winners Mallory Holtman and Sara Tucholsky. Holtman, along with teammate Liz Wallace of Central Washington University's softball team, and Tucholsky of Western Oregon University won the ESPY Award for "best moment" for a simple act of sportsmanship. After Tucholsky hit her first-ever home run during a home game at CWU on April 26, she tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her knee after reaching back to touch first base while circling the bases. Holtman and Wallace carried Tucholsky to second base, third base and home plate for her first home run and final play of her collegiate career.
D-backs fans will also be treated to a post-game concert on Saturday featuring new country-recording artist Jessica Simpson. The concert is free with a ticket to that night's game.
