Sweden won the first four matches, and went on to defeat the United States, 5-2, in a World Dual meet held in Sweden on Friday.
Claiming victories for the United States were Elena Pirozkhov (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Stefanie Shaw (Waterford, Conn./New York AC) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.
Pirozkhov defeated 2006 World bronze medalist Helena Allandi, 4-1, 0-4, 3-1.
"Elena competed at her new weight class," said USA Wrestling Women's Developmental Coach Izzy Izboinikov. "She overall wrestled well. She found a good takedown to win the match in the third period."
Shaw stopped Sanne Hernodh, 2-0, 1-0 in their bout.
"Stefanie wrestled her basics well and made no mistakes," said Izboinikov. "She used her opportunities on defense."
In addition to the Senior-level dual meet, a group of U.S. Cadet wrestlers also had matches against Swedish opponents.
Winning her match on the Cadet level was Carlene Sluberski of New York, a 2007 FILA Cadet National champion. Sluberski scored a 3-1, 1-1 win in her bout.
These athletes will participate in the Klippan Ladies Open in Klippan, Sweden this weekend.
