Toby Tobiasson of West Valley City, Utah was named USA Wrestling Official of the Year. This award is presented annually to an outstanding official within USA Wrestling for achievements and service to the sport.

Tobiasson has been an official for 25 years, working all levels of the sport within the United States. He holds an M-1 ranking within the USA.

Since 1989, he has never missed officiating at the Rocky Mountain Regionals, the Cadet Nationals or the Junior Nationals. He has officiated at every Cadet National Duals ever held. He has also officiated at all of the U.S. National Championships held in Las Vegas, Nev., only missing the two years the event was held in Florida.

Tobiasson is a USWOA Board member and currently serves as its Secretary. He is currently the Director of Mat Officials for Utah USA Wrestling, and has served in the same capacity for the state associations in Colorado and New Mexico.

He has been a high school wrestling referee for 35 years, and has served as an area director in both Colorado and New Mexico. He has also served as an evaluator of officials for high school associations in Utah and Colorado.

He ran the Delores Wrestling Club in Colorado for 12 years, serving as its president and one of its coaches.

Tobiasson's son Chad was a high school, freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion in Colorado. His nephews and grandson have also been wrestlers.

He was a high school wrestler for North Platte High in Nebraska. He played college football at McCook Junior College in Nebraska and for Iowa State Univ.

"I have always considered myself a worker bee," said Tobiasson. "I think officials should do weighins and everything they can. I try to bring as many people along as I can. I enjoy evaluating officials. I was evaluated and I appreciate what those people did for me. I enjoy paying the sport back."

"This organization has done so much for me. There comes a time when you have to repay for all they have done for you. That is something that has a drastic impact. I am so close to this sport. I am more enthusiastic than I have ever been about wrestling," said Tobiasson.
